LAGOON

Branding project

Fall 2024

Originally called Lake Park, the resort that would become Lagoon opened on the shores of the Great Salt Lake on July 15, 1886. Lake Park was eventually moved east to Farmington, Utah, along the banks of a nine-acre pond that would later inspire the park’s name change to -you guessed it- Lagoon!

For over a century, Lagoon has served the greater Salt Lake area with thrills, entertainment, and lifelong memories. Several generations of families have now been able to enjoy the theme park throughout its many years of running, as well as making memories together. While being home to several historic and innovative rollercoasters, the primary focus of Lagoon is to continue to help families enjoy their time together at the park for generations to come.

For a branding project, I decided to tackle revamping the theme park's current branding to have a historical nod to the past while also being innovative, fresh, and fun for the future! The logotype with it's many variables is a modified version of one of Wm. H Page & Co.'s type specimens from 1874. I loved the idea of using a Saloon era woodblock type that could be interesting flat, but also dressed up and built upon just like a rollercoaster. This feature and the many colors based on the park's attraction names led to a lot of fun and exploration.
